Euless’s Vishnu Maya Upadhyay Named TNP Preceptor of the Year (Austin, Texas — September 25, 2020) — Vishnu Maya Upadhyay (RN, DNP, FNP-BC, WHNP -BC, PMHNP-BC) of Euless has been named the recipient of the 2020 Texas Nurse Practitioners’ Preceptor of the Year Award, given annually to recognize a Nurse Practitioner Preceptor who is committed to the excellence of nurse practitioners’ clinical education. Upadhyay will receive the award on Friday, September 25, during TNP’s 32nd Annual Fall Conference.

“Now more than ever, we need quality health care providers, and the next generation of NPs are going to be counted on to help us meet that need,” said TNP President Christy Blanco. “That’s why precepts like Upadhyay, who give so much into and energy helping NP students prepare to become quality health care providers, are so important. We salute her for her dedication to providing much-needed guidance for young NPs, keeping them prepared and enthusiastic as they enter the healthcare workforce.”

Upadhyay is a triple-certified family, women, and mental health nurse practitioner and has practiced since 2000. A graduate of Raj Kamari Amrit Kaur College in New Delhi, India, she received Women’s Health Name Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner certification from UT Southwestern and Texas Woman’s University, respectively. Since 2013, she has owned and operated a healthcare clinic in Euless and consults NPs on how to set up and operate independent clinics of their own. She also offers clinical training to registered nurses, NP students, pre-physician assistants, medical students, and medical assistant students at her clinic. She has authored professional papers related to grief after miscarriage and depression in young adults.

The health advisor to the Mayor of Euless, she is active in the community, serving in leadership positions with Dallas Everest Lions Club (DELC) and the USA-Nepal Community Outreach Network (UNCON), a US-based non-profit organization. She is also a director at the Nepalese American Chamber of Commerce.

“On behalf of TNP, we would like to congratulate Vishnu Maya Upadhyay on this award and thank her for her innumerable contributions to NPs and their patients,” said Blanco.

Every year, TNP’s Fall Conference brings together hundreds of nurse practitioners, students, and stakeholders to discuss trends in healthcare, the state of the industry, and both proposed and recent changes to Texas laws and regulations. This year’s event, held virtually, runs September 25-27.
